“He told me i was doing a photo shoot of him and to send some pictures to his mother back home, and he wanted to be in his uniform and me looking nice in a dress. And then when i set the timer and ran over to stand beside him, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.”

Pocahontas Wedding
Ok, we’re just going to forget that there was a sequel (or forget history for that matter) and pretend that the true love story is between Pocahontas and John Smith—a love that crossed cultural barriers to bring peace between the two worlds. The inspiration for this piece came mostly from the songs in the movie, with Colors of the Wind being the inspiration for the cake. Sadly I could not find the perfect example for this cake, but picture the leaves and flowers in the wind during that song cascading down a white or light blue cake.
The ceremony is meant to be under a willow tree (like Grandmother Willow). Take special note of the compass favors/table assignments and the map centerpieces.
Great Ideas that Aren’t on the Board
- I really wanted to find a bouquet with corn cobs or some sort of harvest theme.
- If this is for a shotgun wedding, and Daddy wants to have some fun, and everyone’s a good sport about it, Chief Powhatan did try to kill John Smith with that staff of his…
- The deleted song, If I Never Knew You keeps popping into my head… so I think that should probably be the theme for the vows—what life would be like if the bride and groom never knew each other. Could be cute.
